Top 5 Reasons Honeymooners Love Maui

Maui, also known as the Valley Isle, is the 2nd largest of the Hawaiian islands. The size of the island is not what makes it so appealing though. It’s the natural beauty, amazing sunsets, the local people and very special Aloha Spirit that enhances any visit to Maui. It’s one that must be experienced personally to understand. Here are some of the top reasons that couples continue to choose the island of Maui as their honeymoon destination.

Great Resorts & Beaches

A visit to any island destination is not complete without pristine beaches and comfortable accommodations. Maui offers both! There are some fantastic resort and beautiful beach areas to fit a wide variety of preferences. The most popular (and with the most options) is the Ka’anapali area in West Maui. You will also find some wonderful options in the Wailea area (more upscale), Makena (just south of Wailea), Kapalua and Hana areas. Keep in mind that not all types of hotels or accommodations will be the right fit for every couple, but some of the top choices on the island are Four Season Maui (my personal favorite), Andaz Maui, Fairmont Kea Lani, Westin Maui Resort & Spa, Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa, and for something very unique take a look at Traavasa Hana. There are many more hotel options to select from. Choosing the right location, type of property, level of service, type and room view are very important factors in any honeymoon experience, so choose wisely.

Activities Galore

Do you like to be active? Get out and explore on your own? Maui is the perfect place to do just that. From hiking a waterfall, snorkeling and scuba diving, swimming with the turtles, standup paddle boarding, surf lessons, or whale watching, to watching a sunrise from Haleakala National Park and then biking down after, Maui offers this and more. For those looking for something more laid back and relaxing, choose to sunbathe by the expansive resort pools or on the beautiful beaches of Ka’anapali or Wailea, or leisurely shopping in Lahaina . How about a day of golfing or some pampering at the many world class spas. And no trip to Maui is complete without a drive on the Road to Hana. Very iconic, historic and absolutely beautiful! If you have a good map or guide book, you can see several waterfalls along the way.

Food & Culture

Although Maui is part of the United States, it has a very different vibe and feel about it. It’s more like the island living, relaxed atmosphere we dream of. It seems like a different, far away world, yet still very familiar. Dining is a large part of Maui living. From small, simple food trucks to a 5-star dining experience. Maui offers it all. You will find many different cuisines as well. Italian, French, Asian, Hawaiian and more! Culture also plays a huge part of the Maui experience. Festivals, craft fairs, live music, evening luaus, historic and cultural centers dedicated to teaching of Hawaii’s history and Polynesian influence.

Romance

It’s your honeymoon, of course you want some romance amidst your activities. Romantic opportunities are not hard to find on Maui. How about a leisurely stroll along the beach before dinner, a sunset catamaran cruise along the shoreline, a dinner al fresco, with the ocean in the background, or a couples massage at the many world class spas. Romance can be added into almost any activity on the island. If you plan to go out and explore on your own, you could pack a picnic basket, champagne or wine and dine amongst spectacular scenery.

Aloha Spirit

I think there is nothing better than the Aloha Spirit. It’s engrained in everyday living on the Hawaiian islands. “The Aloha Spirit is a well known reference to the attitude of friendly acceptance for which the Hawaiian Islands are so famous.” In the Hawaiian language, aloha stands for much more than just “hello” or “goodbye” or “love.” Its deeper meaning is “the joyful (oha) sharing (alo) of life energy (ha) in the present (alo).” ** You find the Aloha Spirit on Maui and throughout all of the Hawaii. It will leave you with a very calm, settling feeling that you may just want to adopt and bring back with you! What is your “Aloha Spirit”
